ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?? GO ARLINGTON

Registration has begun for the 2008 football season, check out the Registration & Fees tab on the left.

The Arlington Football League (AFL) is designed to provide fundamental instruction in the game of football, in addition to providing for the physical, mental, and emotional development of each child who participates. This is accomplished through emphasis on sportsmanship, team play, self-discipline, maximum effort, integrity, and maximum participation in a FUN environment.

For more information on registration and other topics, check out the menu bar on the left.

The AFL is jointly administered by Arlington County Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) and volunteers of AFL.  We will be working very closely with PRCR staff to offer the best youth football program possible.  Our football program participates in the Fairfax County Youth Football League (FCYFL) along with approximately 24 other individual youth clubs that field teams in the various weight classes from 65 through 150 pound and approximately 5000 participants, some 360 teams. The Fairfax County Youth Football League (FCYFL) has been in existence for 35 years and serves the Northern Virginia region, with member clubs located in Arlington, Fairfax, and Prince William counties and Alexandria city. The purpose of the FCYFL is to provide participating youth with a healthful, enjoyable leisure time activity, and to foster in them the qualities of sportsmanship, team play, and integrity.  Teams from outside the geographic boundaries of Fairfax County may play in the FCYFL as long as they play with a youth club recognized by the FCYFL.

Our program is open to anyone in Arlington, ages range from 7 to 16 years old. Teams are divided up by a combination of age, weight and experience. This is a no-cut program, where everyone is selected for a team and each player must play a significant portion of every league game.  For more information on FCYFL visit www.fcyfl.com.

Football Officials Needed
posted 04/07/2008

This season, the FCYFL will surpass 7,000 players and we urgently need more officials to cover all of our games.  If you know of someone who may be interested in a great part-time job, please contact Don Stitt, Chairman, Fairfax County Football Officiating Association (FCFOA)  for more information.  Candidates must be at least 16 years old and have reliable transportation.  Training will be provided.  This is a great job for high school students or adults.

Football Operations - Volunteers Needed
posted 04/07/2008

It takes alot of volunteers to create a fun, memorable, and exciting youth football program.  Football operations include: planning and executing picture day, snack bar operations, booster day, raffle ticket sales, other fund raising activites and other youth and adult activities that make AFL Football special.  If you have the time, commitment and desire to be a part of these unique community events, contact Commissioner Debbie Groshon at

All volunteers and individuals who have direct contact with the youth in our league are subject to background checks to ensure the safety of the participants in our program.
